'Historic' Goosedale Pics

We all know this feeling - can't wait to get tinkering with things,
before we've even got ourselves fully out of the box.

What better way to spend your spare time than on a hobby.
And looks like these guys were into a spot of casual fishing
- that is until this drama unfolded in the skies right above them.
Luckily, our photographer has caught on film the very moment as
one of the planes is coming down, apparently having completely
lost a set of its wings.
We hope the splash didn't scare the fish too much, guys.

This one predates our car park, the road tarmac and the avenue of conifer planting.
Also back then, looks like direction finding antenna were still on the large side.
Recognise any models that you're still flying?

At least, if this doesn't work out,
he can try a bit of golf with those two yellow practice balls.

I can feel 'The Force' is strong with this one,
so really no need to be quite so terrified.

The club's BBQ - this was quite an early point on the learning curve....
it did improve !

Evening visitors. As they came nearer, they looked like they were going to touch down,
but then I think they must have got a whiff from the BBQ.

As I recall, no-one that day managed to score and hit the 10.
I think truth was, no-one really liked the new runway
- a bit too gritty and rather intimidating - those pipe cleaner trees..

Initial attempts at fitting RC to the mower ran into problems
- principally to do with speed and the cutting height adjustment.

Goosedale 11aug09 002-2.jpg

August 2009

Does this remind you of an albatross taking off?
It does, doesn't it?
Well, okay - of course, minus the exhaust smoke.

Now, was this to be curtains for our Special Agent: 'Blue Balloon' ?
Well - I could tell you. But then, where would the mystery be?

However, just when we all thought Special Agent Blue's tight spot couldn't get any tighter
- there, to the rescue, was Blue's talented Assistant: Miss Many Penny.

September 2009

I told you - didn't I. I said, you're too close to that tree.
Yeah - but only after I'd hit it !!

23-12-2009 030LoRes.jpg

December 2009

So what's missing? Santa Claus? Reindeer? A Christmas tree?
No - where's the sledge ?
Sit on the sledge - open the throttle and across the snow you go !

Delicate Lipo SurgeryLoRes.JPG

June 2013
Right - so, you've a duff cell in a Lipo battery. Then, indeed - yes, it can be removed. But - as this and the next picture indicate - for a safe and successful outcome, it does require care, a knowledge of electrics and real surgical precision.

Best to check thoroughly before use.JPG

Now, would you judge this to be a successful outcome? - Okay, so you're not too sure.

Well, I think more importantly we should use this picture to illustrates some of the signs that a Lipo battery may well be ready for replacement - signs which, unfortunately, can all too easily be missed by the less experienced.

Indeed, have you spotted the slight discolouration - look carefully and you'll probably see traces of blackishness. And if you've a critical eye, you may have even picked up on a degree of distortion to the shape of the battery.

These are all signs that unreliability may be about to become a very unwelcome issue - and yes, that is even if the voltage and charge do still appear just as good as the day it was bought.

And so, bear in mind - if a good friend offers to sell you a battery that looks like this,
then you now know he is obviously unaware of these subtle danger signs.
Time to be an equally good friend - and to subtly set about educating him.

Were you sold the wrong aircraft for your needs. If you believe so, then - just like with the miss-selling of PP eye -
we could help get your money back.

Just attach it to a very old postcard and send it to:

The Miss Selling Department,
'He's A Very Naughty Boy' Company Limited
Clapham
- that's spelt: K-E-Y-N-S-H-A-M
Not all that far from Bristol.

And if you've not eaten those sandwiches by now - I'd bin them - seriously.

So, next time fuel becomes an issue, I was thinking it would be better to try for a crevasse in Antarctica, or a crater on the Dark Side of the Moon.
You know, I'm good with either.

And, on a summer's day - honestly - I'm not joking - where better?

And, back to joking...

... just why is that guy holding a sausage on a long skewer?

... well, I don't know where my head's gone.
I felt sure it was somewhere in the back of the car !!

GoosedaleSat10-5-2008 055LoRes.jpg

As can be seen, back in 2008, sometimes quite a queue could form.

Luckily, facilities are now much improved, thanks to the cabin urinal.

goosedale 15mar2009 005LoRes.jpg

I remember this model at Goosedale in 2009.

Loads of power, but way too small a wing area.

Goosedale 02 may 09 005-2croppedLoRes.jpg

Back in 2009, there was so much Dihedral about,

you could pick up a whole load of it for next to nothing.

Goosedale 02 may 2009 008-2CroppedLoRes.jpg

And in 2009, big balloon tyres were on offer too. But generally you get what you pay for.

Here we can see, one has worn out completely.

And that happened in just a single flight.

At Goosedale, many of the pilots often try their hand at improving their tree landing skills.

Frequently, though, a novice will come in and land way too high.

Thankfully, steps can be taken to remedy this.

But as can be seen here,

persistent practice can ultimately deliver perfect placement within the tree landing area.

2017:

Let's face it - if it turned out your airline was launching its planes off of this sort of contraption

- no question about it - you'd switch to a different airline, right?

..... I mean - not even the biscuit tin had any biscuits in it !!
